The California African American Water Education Foundation (CAAWEF) is a statewide, non-profit water education organization. Formed in 2019, CAAWEF provides water education and leadership training in the African American community. Through CAAWEF’s education and outreach programs, we provide information about water quality, rates, supply and resource management. We work to educate individual community leaders and grassroots organizations about policies that impact the quality of water in their communities.
Based in Sacramento, CAAWEF is governed by a regionally diverse Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of state leaders from water, business and the community-based organizations who embrace the vision for creating an informed African American community on water issues impacting their everyday lives.

Educating the African American Community about important water issues.
CAAWEF focuses primarily on urban and agricultural regions of the state where African Americans live. African American families who live in these regions, along with elected officials, faith leaders, business leaders and community opinion leaders are the target audience for the Foundation.
The African American community in California represents a constituency that has the potential to become a strong voice in their community to advocate for needed changes.

Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Santa Clara Valley Water District, Inland Empire Utilities Agency, East Bay Municipal Water District, Contra Costa Water District and West Basin Municipal Water District are founding members of the organization.
